St. Peter’s in the Valley – Ferentillo

The abbey of St. Peter’s in the Valley boasts a history of thousands of years and has its roots in the early Middle Ages, when, around the year 500 A.D., three hundred monks fled from Syria. They spread throughout the mountains of the Valnerina valley with the task of evangelizing its populations. These monks founded hermitages and abbeys including St. Peter’s in the Valley which was built thanks to Faroaldo I, Lombard founder of the Duchy of Spoleto.
