Program
Arrival in the afternoon and free independent visit of the Marmore Falls, an extraordinary work of hydraulic engineering dating back to Roman times. It is a man-made spectacle, yet one where lush and wild nature takes centre stage, with all its elements, sounds, colours and scents.
At the end of the visit, transfer to Cesi, a charming village perched on the mountains surrounding the city of Terni, overlooking it with breathtaking views. Accommodation in the selected property, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and departure with a cycle tourism guide for a bike excursion to discover the local area. The excursion takes place mainly on dirt roads and low-traffic secondary roads. The total duration is approximately 6–7 hours. There are some uphill sections, which can be tackled easily with the use of an e-bike.
The first stop is San Gemini, one of the most beautiful villages in Umbria, characterised by a fascinating medieval historic centre enclosed by walls and towers. Its streets, squares and buildings still bear witness today to the important medieval tradition that brings the village to life through historical re-enactments and events dedicated to its past.
The route continues towards Carsulae, an important Roman archaeological area surrounded by greenery and crossed by the ancient Via Flaminia. It is possible to enrich the visit with the support of a professional archaeologist. This optional service must be booked in advance.
The itinerary continues towards Portaria, a small medieval village in a panoramic position on the Martani Mountains, characterised by stone alleys, ancient houses and beautiful views over the Umbrian countryside. Afterwards, the route reaches Macerino, an ancient fortified castle surrounded by woods, an ideal place for a peaceful stop in contact with nature.
Packed lunch or lunch at a local restaurant available on request and to be quoted at the time of booking. In the afternoon, return to Cesi and end of the excursion. Dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and time at leisure for a free visit of the village of Cesi, an ancient medieval castle located on the slopes of the Martani Mountains. Walking through alleys, small squares and ancient walls, it will be possible to discover panoramic views and traces of the village’s long history. Cesi is home to several churches, including the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, with a beautiful wooden choir and various precious paintings.
For those wishing to enrich the experience, it is possible to include a visit to the tourist section of Grotta Eolia, a fascinating natural cave that extends beneath the mountain. The route winds through evocative environments and distinctive geological formations; in some sections it is necessary to proceed with the upper body bent or to crouch down to pass through, without however having to crawl on the ground. An engaging experience that allows visitors to discover a fascinating underground world in the heart of the village of Cesi.
At the end of the activities, departure for the return journey.
