Piediluco<\/strong>\u00a0is a picturesque town whose name means “at the foot of the montain”. With its appearance which has remained unchanged since the Middle Ages, with its low, small and coloured houses, it is really dislocated in the narrow stretch of land which lies between the lake and the mountain.\u00a0\u00a0Lake Piediluco<\/strong>\u00a0which takes its name from that of the town is so irregular in shape that it could be an Alpine lake.\u00a0The back of the village is dominated by the\u00a0Castle (11th century)<\/strong>.\u00a0The Waterfalls<\/strong>, which are immersed in a natural scenery of incomparable beauty, are an artificial work due to the Romans. In fact, at that time, the Velino river was greatly enlarged and had created a vast zone of stagnant waters, swampy and unhealthy. Aiming to make these waters deflow, the consul Curius Dentatus had a canal dug which directed them in direction of the Marmore cliff.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Piediluco is a\u00a0small medieval village<\/strong>\u00a0overlooking the lake. Archeological excavations in the area have enabled us to find the remains of settlements dating back to the late Bronze Age. It was later conquered by the Sabines and, from the middle of the third century BC, it passed to the Romans. In a document of 1028 is mentioning\u00a0Castello de Luco<\/strong>\u00a0(on top of the mountain of the Rock, from the Latin word Lucus, sacred wood) and curtem de Postro (the lake), as a possession of the Bernard D’Arrochar, the feudal lord place, which grants it to the monks of Farfa. La Rocca was characterized by a tower with a square tower, which now remain only ruins. Below was a small village, in the area called the Hill.\u00a0In 1208, St. Francis went to Piediluco<\/strong>. In 1244, Federico II gave those places to Brancaleone, who fortified the castle. Subsequent historical events saw several families over the land under the protection of various popes. Between the eighteenth century and the end of 1900, Piediluco made a great leap to fame:\u00a0 thanks to the fact that they often matched the\u00a0Grand Tour<\/strong>\u00a0with a visit to the waterfalls Marmore. Also to remember the \u00a0Corot painting. \u00a0In the \u201860 Piediluco, \u00a0has experienced a period of splendor hosting many movie stars including\u00a0Brigitte Bardot<\/strong>, who was immortalized by photographer Valentini Terni on the banks of the lake.<\/p>

Sport fishing<\/strong>

Carp, tench, eel, bream, pike real, bleak, whitefish, rainbow trout, brown trout, bluegill, and perch. Lovers of sports fishing, Piediluco, are spoiled for choice. Just decide what to draw and identify the most appropriate technique, also based on the time of year, and the fun is guaranteed. All in a picturesque natural scenery that makes this one of the most beautiful lakes in central Italy.

If the Italian Rowing Federation has chosen the Piediluco Lake as the site of the\u00a0National Center Remiero<\/strong>\u00a0the reason lies in the particular density of water. \u00a0In fact, is ideal for boating. \u00a0Here is established the National Olympic rowing, \u00a0which Piediluco trains and organizes international meetings.

Trekking and mountain bike<\/strong>

The lake of Piediluco is a fixed destination for every excursion on foot or by bicycle for those who want to combine the charm of history to a wonderful postcard view. Piediluco is the point of departure and arrival of numerous MTB trails round the lake from the simplest to the most difficult but interesting as the Greenway of the Nera, a ringway of 180 km completely signaled.

Piediluco is the point of departure and arrival of numerous bike trails, from the simplest around the lake in the most challenging but exciting as the\u00a0Greenway Black<\/strong>. Altogether it reported a ring of 180 km. As for the racing bike, Piediluco is the point of departure and arrival of three rings cycling for all legs. The tour of the lakes, the tour of the Franciscan sanctuaries and the\u00a0climb of the Terminillo<\/strong>, and is also one of the points of rando\u00a0Grand Tour Rando<\/strong>, the path of the patent cycling permanent Umbria, which, with its 320 km, linking all the main points of interest in the area.
