Today, the ruins of the Roman town of Carsulae is an archeological area offering an immersive experience amongst the testimonies of its past and innovative techniques of virtual reality.The town was built along the Via Flaminia and was a meeting point for the pre-Roman populations living on the hills and nearby countryside.<\/div>

The Consular road was built around 220 and allowed a great development of traffic along its artery, and most likely, in this first stage Carsulae rose up.<\/div>

\u00a0<\/p>

The Roman town, as we see it today, was nearly entirely excavated during the excavation campaigns carried out by Umberto Ciotti between 1951 and 1972, which brought to light a large quantity of monuments and buildings as well as a series of inscriptions.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
From all of this we can imagine a rich and particularly active town.<\/div>
From the Republican urban phase, in the period corresponding to the opening of the road, limited traces remain which were uncovered during excavation works in the substructures of the forum temples.The definitive urban layout dates back to the Augustan Age when the town became a municipality and was assigned to the Clustumina tribe, the same as Interamna.<\/div>
The decline and abandonment of Carsulae were a consequence of the loss of importance of the western branch of the Flaminia, thus benefitting traffic which passed through Interamna and Spoletium, as well as the lack of a defensive wall rendering it a dangerous place.<\/div>
Recent excavations have brought to light some of the main public buildings of the town along the Flaminia, in particular the forum and the area dedicated to entertainment.<\/div><\/div>

Immediately outside the San Damiano Arch, two monumental burial sites can be admired dedicated to prominent personalities and families. In front of the forum is the church of San Damiano, built using the walls of an ancient building. A paved road, perpendicular to the Flaminia, leads to the area of the entertainment buildings.<\/div>
The amphitheatre was built on a sinkhole and the theatre has tiers set on a series of vaulted rooms.<\/div>
The two buildings, practically on the same axis, are the result of a single design drawing.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
