It was originally meant as a fortification to defend communication routes, on the border between the Byzantine possessions and the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto.\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a10f29a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a10f29a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y_-9FA_gWY4\" width=\"1170\" height=\"470\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a5dc5d1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3a5dc5d1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Its name appears to have come from one of the Dukes of Spoleto, Ugone. From Castrum Ugonis to Castrugone and then Strungone. Enclosed in its ancient walls Stroncone is accessible through the massive <strong>Main<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Gate<\/strong> that overlooks the current Piazza della Libert\u00e0 (Liberty Square), right in front of the beautiful <strong>16th. Century Fountain of the Three Cups<\/strong>. After passing through the gate, we find ourselves in <strong>Piazza San Giovanni (St. John Square)<\/strong>, which takes its name from the Oratory overlooking it with the <strong>Medieval Well<\/strong> in the centre. Higher up we find the square where the <strong>Church of St. Nicholas<\/strong> and the <strong>Priori Palace,<\/strong> which now houses the Municipality, overlook. Higher still, where the ancient Fortress must have stood, there is now the<strong> Church of Our Lady of the Banner.<\/strong> Continuing along the narrow Medieval streets we reach the <strong>Church of St. Michael Archangel<\/strong>, located on a cliff at the end of the village.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
