A long love story binds Jazz and Umbria.A story that is renewed every year and that is nothing but a synthesis of the music of high quality and beautiful glimpses of an 'enchanted Perugia.
There isn’t a festival in Italy that can be compared to this, in importance and because of the attention it devotes to jazz music. Since the first edition, which took place in Piediluco in 1973, there have been many innovations and related initiatives that have helped make the event known not only in Italy. Starting with the names of the guests, who each year is involved embellishing the various editions. Keith Jarrett, James Brown, Chet Baker, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Paolo Fresu, Stefano Bollani and the list goes on ... From the beginning, in fact, the promoter of the festival, Carlo Pagnotta, had set the goal of popularizing jazz music throughout the country starting from Umbria where even small villages would be involved in this great project. Initially, the idea was to create a traveling festival, totally devoted to jazz. But it was not so easy to manage the large crowds and some difficulties encountered along the way, so, after a year off, Umbria Jazz was modernized. Today is held in July almost exclusively in Perugia, where the notes ring out of the most famous jazz artists, with some digression in the territories of rock, blues and pop songs. For this reason, the event has become a reference point for artists, professionals and the general public for which Perugia has become synonymous with glamor black and quality music. Discover and rediscover ancient streets and forgotten villages, walking on the border of the sky or through dense and mysterious forests, on the track of a fox or one of the robbers of the past.
